Right after the Fourth of July celebrating America’s independence from Great Britain in 1776, comes Cape Verdean Independence Day on July 5th, celebrating Cape Verde’s independence from Portugal in 1975. Two back-to-back holidays celebrating both countries.
In the US, several states in New England hold annual parades and festivals celebrating Cape Verdean Independence Day. These events often feature great Cape Verdean music, food, and arts.
New Bedford, MA Cape Verdean Independence Parade

Providence, RI Cape Verdean Independence Day Festival
On July 10, 2022 at India Point Park, 225 India St, Providence, RI, the RI Cape Verdean Heritage Committee will put on the 47th annual Cape Verdean Independence Day Festival. For more information see the State of Rhode Island Historical Preservation & Heritage Commission.
